Introduction

This thesis provides an overview of recent studies and reports about the situation of the gender gap of representation in films and television. It will look into common misconceptions of the causes and proves them wrong. Additionally, it will show the results of a survey asking women from international backgrounds about their role models. Furthermore, the thesis will look into the effects a lack of representation can have on children and their future as well as highlighting the importance of female superheroes and the problem with the Disney princesses. The thesis will conclude the findings and recommend possible solutions to initiate change.

Two women who exist and talk to each other about stuff. It does happen. I’ve seen it, and yet I very rarely see it in the movies that we know & love.

that inspired:

Urban Berlin

Student photography project from 2017.

I wanted to show how life is in the Ubahn stations, everything moving so fast and everyone is in a hurry. I took pictures of the trains arriving at the stations to show the fast movement and how hectic it is when the doors open and the people come out in a hurry. I stood in front of the stairs facing them with my back up against a column this way the people coming from behind me would not pause when seeing a camera and keep walking past me and up the stairs. The pictures ended up having a very interesting ghost-like movement.

I liked that you can see a woman and a dog through the movement of the people. Showing that not everyone is in a hurry.
